HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Sheriff Jon Sandage on the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of McLean County; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his law enforcement career, Sheriff Sandage earned his Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement and his Bachelor of Science in Advanced Technical Studies from Southern Illinois University; he later completed all training and examinations required to earn his certification as a traffic crash reconstructionist in 2003 and graduated from the National FBI Academy in 2012, where he received his Criminal Justice Education Certificate from the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage started his career as a deputy sheriff with the McLean County Sheriff's Office on July 15, 1991; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was assigned as an inspector to the Illinois State Police Drug Task Force in January 1997, where he worked undercover to investigate the sale, manufacturing, and distribution of illegal drugs; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was promoted to the rank of sergeant in December 1998 and assigned to the Patrol Division, where he served as a field supervisor and watch commander; he was reassigned as the supervisor in charge of the Law and Justice Center security in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was promoted to lieutenant in 2009 and assumed command of the Patrol Division; he took command of the Criminal Investigation Division in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was sworn in as the 46th Sheriff of McLean County on December 1, 2014, serving two consecutive terms until his retirement on November 30, 2022; during his tenure, he oversaw many of complexities associated with the operational needs of the organization while simultaneously facing the challenges of the construction and opening of the jail expansion and the global COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage is a decorated peace officer and has received multiple awards during his career, including a Meritorious Services Citation, 10 Commendation Citations, a Good Conduct Citation, an Education Citation with Silver Star, a National Disaster Service Citation, and the John Edgar Hoover Memorial Award for continually seeking a lifetime of education and advancement; he has also received the great honor of being named to the American Police Hall of Fame and has received multiple letters of appreciation for his efforts; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sheriff Jon Sandage on his retirement as Sheriff of McLean County, and we recognize his commitment and service to the community and the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sheriff Sandage as an expression of our esteem and respect.
