HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Sheriff Jon Sandage on
4the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of McLean County;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Prior to his law enforcement career, Sheriff
7Sandage earned his Associate of Applied Science in Law
8Enforcement and his Bachelor of Science in Advanced Technical
9Studies from Southern Illinois University; he later completed
10all training and examinations required to earn his
11certification as a traffic crash reconstructionist in 2003 and
12graduated from the National FBI Academy in 2012, where he
13received his Criminal Justice Education Certificate from the
14University of Virginia; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage started his career as a deputy
16sheriff with the McLean County Sheriff's Office on July 15,
171991; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was assigned as an inspector to
19the Illinois State Police Drug Task Force in January 1997,
20where he worked undercover to investigate the sale,
21manufacturing, and distribution of illegal drugs; and

1    WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was promoted to the rank of
2sergeant in December 1998 and assigned to the Patrol Division,
3where he served as a field supervisor and watch commander; he
4was reassigned as the supervisor in charge of the Law and
5Justice Center security in 2008; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was promoted to lieutenant in
72009 and assumed command of the Patrol Division; he took
8command of the Criminal Investigation Division in 2011; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was sworn in as the 46th Sheriff
10of McLean County on December 1, 2014, serving two consecutive
11terms until his retirement on November 30, 2022; during his
12tenure, he oversaw many of complexities associated with the
13operational needs of the organization while simultaneously
14facing the challenges of the construction and opening of the
15jail expansion and the global COVID-19 pandemic; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage is a decorated peace officer and
17has received multiple awards during his career, including a
18Meritorious Services Citation, 10 Commendation Citations, a
19Good Conduct Citation, an Education Citation with Silver Star,
20a National Disaster Service Citation, and the John Edgar
21Hoover Memorial Award for continually seeking a lifetime of
22education and advancement; he has also received the great
23honor of being named to the American Police Hall of Fame and

1has received multiple letters of appreciation for his efforts;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we congratulate Sheriff Jon Sandage on his retirement as
6Sheriff of McLean County, and we recognize his commitment and
7service to the community and the State of Illinois; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Sheriff Sandage as an expression of our esteem
11and respect.
