SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Allan Ray "Al" Gieseking of
4Springfield, who passed away on October 23, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Al Gieseking was born to Edward and Alma
6Gieseking on February 13, 1942; he graduated from Raymond High
7School in 1960 and attended the University of Illinois from
81960 to 1963; he graduated from Eastern Illinois University in
91965 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education and
10from Sangamon State University with a Master of Arts in
11Educational Administration; he married Nadine Nobbe at Trinity
12Lutheran Church in Harvel on August 15, 1964; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Al Gieseking taught mathematics and coached all
14sports at Edison Junior High from 1965 to 1974; he taught
15mathematics and computer science at Lanphier High School from
161975 to 1994, along with coaching freshman basketball in 1974
17and serving as varsity assistant to Bob Nika from 1975 to 1986;
18the Lions played in three state finals during that time, in
191977, 1983, and 1985, winning in 1985; he also served as the
20mathematics department chairman from 1984 until his retirement
21in 1994; he was employed as an income tax preparer at H&R Block
22from 1995 to 2004; and

1    WHEREAS, Al Gieseking was a member of Good Shepherd
2Lutheran Church in Rochester; beginning in 1983, he served as
3the organist for Good Shepherd and Immanuel Lutheran Church in
4Riverton, along with holding various offices at Good Shepherd;
5he and Nadine traveled extensively, with trips to Alaska,
6Hawaii, Europe, New Zealand/Australia, the Caribbean, and
7South America; he was passionate about his golf game and
8enjoyed family vacations; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Al Gieseking was preceded in death by his parents
10and his brothers, Dale and Darrell Gieseking; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Al Gieseking is survived by his wife, Nadine; his
12daughter, Nancy (Scott) Harry; his sons, Eric (Laura) and
13Jeffrey (Joanne) Gieseking; his grandchildren, Michael,
14Whitney, and Luke Harry and Logan and Lana Gieseking; and his
15brother, Marlyn (Marilyn) Gieseking; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Allan Ray "Al" Gieseking and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Al Gieseking as an expression of our
