SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3recognize Beverly Sussman on her service as President of the
4Village of Buffalo Grove; and
 
5    WHEREAS, President Sussman and her husband, Marty, moved
6to the Village of Buffalo Grove in 1971, and they raised their
7children in the village; and
 
8    WHEREAS, President Sussman previously worked as a
9sixth-grade science teacher with Kildeer Countryside
10Consolidated School District #96; during her career in
11education, she was awarded the Presidential Award for
12Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and represented the
13State of Illinois in Washington, D.C. in 1995; she taught for
1425 years before her retirement in 2004; she also served as an
15adjunct professor at National Louis University, where she
16taught science methods courses in the master's degree program;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, President Sussman became involved in village
19leadership by serving on the Rick Kahen Commission for
20Residents with Disabilities, a post she held for 15 years from
211994 until her first election as a village trustee in 2009;
22during this time, she and the commission helped expand

1accessibility to community members with special needs; she
2served as a village trustee from 2009 until 2015; and
 
3    WHEREAS, President Sussman has achieved a number of
4accomplishments during her eight-year tenure as president, all
5of which are to the betterment of the Village of Buffalo Grove;
6she and the village board have fostered a business-friendly
7economy and expanded communications efforts to include a
8variety of social media platforms, live-streamed village board
9meetings, a robust website, and a weekly e-newsletter; and
 
10    WHEREAS, President Sussman's additional accomplishments
11include attracting Woodman's grocery store and Northwest
12Community Healthcare and its adjacent multitenant development,
13establishing a new Public Works Facility, and pursuing the
14Infrastructure Modernization Program to revive Buffalo Grove's
15streets, water, and sanitary systems; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Over the past several years, President Sussman
17has been heavily involved in the redevelopment of the Town
18Center, which is the largest redevelopment project in village
19history, into a new, modern central entertainment and
20residential district called The Clove; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Through her efforts and dedication, President
22Sussman has played a key role in helping the Village of Buffalo

1Grove grow into a bustling community featuring a healthy
2economy, excellent parks, and high-quality schools and a great
3place to live, work, and raise a family; and
 
4    WHEREAS, President Sussman has expressed plans to spend
5more time with her husband, Marty, and her family, who
6continuously supported her efforts to serve the Village of
7Buffalo Grove; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Beverly
10Sussman on her service as President of the Village of Buffalo
11Grove, thank her for her dedication to the community, and wish
12her the best in her future endeavors; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Beverly Sussman as an expression of our esteem
15and respect.
