SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert Lee Smarjesse of Springfield,
4who passed away on April 10, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse was born in Springfield to John
6and Catherine Rose Smarjesse on November 15, 1935; he was
7drafted twice in to the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962; he married
8Myrtle Gough in Malibu, California on October 21, 1961; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse served as superintendent of the
10Sangamon County Veterans Assistance Commission, retiring in
111999; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse was a member of American Legion
13Post 32 and Disabled American Veterans; he was an avid golfer
14and Chicago Cubs fan; he was a previous boxer, an excellent
15bowler, and a shuffleboard and pool player; as a young man, he
16even beat the legendary Minnesota Fats; he was a loving and
17caring person to everyone he met; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse was preceded in death by his
19wife, Myrtle; his parents; and his brother, Louis; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Robert Smarjesse is survived by his children,

1Tony (Debbie) Smarjesse, Teri (Joe) Mulvey, and Tami (Alan)
2Savage; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, with
3one on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Robert Lee Smarjesse and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Robert Smarjesse as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
