SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Shirley Jeanne Harper of Franklin, Wisconsin, formerly of Fairfield, who passed away on May 1, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Harper was born to Alvin G. Adler and Barbara Stewart on April 21, 1935; as a child, she was raised by various family members in Wisconsin and Chicago during the Great Depression; she married Robert Wicinski, and they had six children before divorcing; she later married Lee Harper; and

WHEREAS, Shirley and Lee Harper ran a campground in southern Illinois, where they hosted square dancing in the pavilion, fish fries, pig roasts, and Fall Fun Fest; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Harper, after the campground closed, worked for public aid in Illinois for many years; during her tenure, she received great satisfaction in assisting those in need and created a family of coworkers; after retiring, she moved to Franklin, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Harper enjoyed having good conversations about the world, history, food, sports, and family updates; she loved quilting and created many quilts that were given to family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Harper was affectionately known as "GG"; she will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Harper was preceded in death by her son, Steven Wicinski; her parents; and her husband, Lee Harper; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Harper is survived by her children, Greg (Daria) Wicinski, Rhonda (Gary) Shedron, Brian (Mary) Wicinski, Michael (Sherry) Wicinski, Therese (Tim) Wicinski Shaffer, and Robert Wicinski; her grandchildren, Anthony Wicinski, Rachael (Matthew) Unverferth, Keegan (Huijiao "Jess") Tomik, Kyle Tomik, Hayden Wicinski, Colton Wicinski, Erica (fiancé, Andrew) Wicinski, Alexandrea (partner, Kevin) Wicinski, and Devin Wicinski; and her great-grandchildren, Haley and Aiden Wicinski, Hudson, Nash, and Wells Unverferth, and Riley Woods; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Shirley Jeanne Harper and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Shirley Harper as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
