SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Stanley Arthur "Stan" Newell, who passed away on January 11, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Stan Newell was born to Arthur Bunn Newell and Muriel McGee Newell in Pekin on August 8, 1947; he married Shari Lynette Peplow in October 1973; he received his bachelor's degree from Austin Peay State University; and

WHEREAS, Stan Newell was drafted into the U.S. Army after graduating high school; he was a POW in Vietnam from 1967 to 1973; when he returned to the U.S., he was stationed in Tennessee, Alabama, Hawaii, and then Alabama again; after a full career serving his country, he retired from Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992; he was awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, Stan Newell loved family card night and grilling steaks for his family and friends; he enjoyed dove hunts, skeet shooting, reading, and time spent with his granddaughters; and

WHEREAS, Stan Newell was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; and

WHEREAS, Stan Newell is survived by his son, Chris (Autumn) Newell; his granddaughters, Annabelle Grace Newell and Allianne Grace Newell; three sisters; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Stanley Arthur "Stan" Newell and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Stan Newell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
