1     AN ACT concerning education.
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
5 2-3.80a as follows:
6     (105 ILCS 5/2-3.80a)
7     Sec. 2-3.80a. Agricultural Agriculture science teacher
8 education.
9     (a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
10 shall develop an agricultural science teacher education
11 training continuum beginning at the secondary level and shall
12 provide incentive funding grants to the following:
13         (1) institutions of higher education that offer
14     State-approved agricultural science teacher preparation
15     programs; and
16         (2) public community colleges in this State that
17     provide an articulated agricultural science teacher
18     education course of study. the agriculture science teacher
19     education programs located at Illinois State University,
20     Southern Illinois University, the University of Illinois,
21     and Western Illinois University. Public community colleges
22     in this State that provide an articulated agriculture
23     science teacher education course of study are also eligible

1     for funding.
2     (b) The funds provided by the State Board of Education
3 under subsection (a) of this Section may be used to support the
4 following activities:
5         (1) Teacher education candidate recruitment and
6     retention incentives.
7         (2) Having Master teachers and practitioners assist
8     with various aspects of the recruitment of potential
9     candidates and the preparation of those candidates as
10     skilled and qualified teachers of agricultural education
11     the preparation, coordination, and supervision of student
12     teachers.
13         (3) Establishing, and delivering, arranging for, or
14     providing financial support for professional development
15     experiences for new agricultural science teachers during
16     their first 5 years of teaching.
17         (4) Professional development for faculty in
18     universities' agricultural education teacher preparation
19     programs and for community college agriculture faculty
20     responsible for instruction in agricultural education
21     teacher preparation transfer programs university
22     agriculture education teacher education staff.

24     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
