SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 205/9.34 new

    Amends the Board of Higher Education Act. Provides that the Board of Higher Education shall establish a rural campus designation program to recognize the unique challenges and opportunities that exist for university campuses located in rural settings. Requires that the rural campus designation program created by the Board shall correlate with the federal rural campus designation program. Requires the Board to focus resources on the rural educational needs of those university campuses that are designated as rural campuses. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Findings. The General Assembly finds the
5 following:
6         (1) The federal government is pursuing a rural campus
7     designation program.
8         (2) Funding for the program established by this
9     amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall be made
10     available through already established federal Rural
11     Development Grants.
 
12     Section 5. The Board of Higher Education Act is amended by
13 adding Sections 9.34 as follows:
 
14     (110 ILCS 205/9.34 new)
15     Sec. 9.34. Rural campus designation program. The Board
16 shall establish a rural campus designation program to recognize
17 the unique challenges and opportunities that exist for
18 university campuses located in rural settings. The rural campus
19 designation program created under this Section shall correlate
20 with the federal rural campus designation program. Under the
21 program, the Board shall focus resources on the rural
22 educational needs of those university campuses that are

2     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
3 becoming law.
