HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles
4 "Chuck" Oliger of Mahomet, who passed away on January 2, 2009;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Chuck Oliger was born on June 6, 1935, to
7 Sylvester John and Ruth Oliger; he graduated from Champaign
8 High School, having lettered in both wrestling and track; after
9 graduation he married Shirley and they moved to Mahomet, where
10 they started their family; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Chuck loved Mahomet, having been a dedicated
12 public servant for 23 years, serving three years on the plan
13 and zoning commission, eight years on the city council, and
14 concluding with 12 years as mayor; he was proud of his
15 accomplishments, most notably acquiring the land for what is
16 now known as Barber Park and the extension of city services
17 along the Illinois 150 corridor, which enabled the city to
18 grow; in recognition of his years of dedicated service and
19 leadership, the village of Mahomet recently named Main Street
20 after him; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He worked for 30 years as a cement finisher (Local
22 143); he spent much of his time in his shop and was well known

1 for his woodworking and the making of flag cases for VFW Post
2 5520 in Champaign; he enjoyed fishing trips with his brothers
3 to Arkansas and the family reunions at the family cabin; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary
5 Heath, Barbara Ann, and Colleen Oliger; and two brothers, John
6 and David Oliger; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Chuck Oliger is survived by his loving wife of 53
8 years, Shirley; his three children, Chuck (Barbara), Susan
9 Oliger, and Bill Oliger; his six sisters, Lillian Legrand,
10 Clara Jennings, Helen Stahl, Ida Tarter, Sara Stauffer, and
11 Betty Sherrill; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
15 Charles "Chuck" Oliger; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Charles Oliger as a symbol of our
18 sincere sympathy.
