HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kato Gilkey of Chicago, who passed away on March 12, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on September 25, 1927 to Willie Gilkey and Peggie Brewer Gilkey in Macon, Mississippi; he accepted Christ in 1997; and

WHEREAS, He attended school in McCloud and Macon, Mississippi; he owned Gilkey Meat Market; he was employed by the City of Chicago; and he retired from the Cook County Highway Department; and

WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1945; and

WHEREAS, He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and farming; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Gilkey (Butch); and

WHEREAS, Kato Gilkey leaves to mourn, William Gilkey, Lorene Falcen, and Mary Williams; his children, Margrett, Willie, Kato Jr., Kelvin, Lavictory (Otis), Larry (Antronette), Kenneth, and Michael (Beverly); his 25 grandchildren; his 28 great-grandchildren; his best friend, Curtis Carpenter; and a host of nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Kato Gilkey; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kato Gilkey as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
