HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Chicago Police Department K9 Specialist Derrick Rhodes and Sergeant Monica Rhodes for being named the Illinois Sheriff's Association's Deputies of the Year for their bravery; and

WHEREAS, On October 18, 2009 the couple went out for breakfast and observed a brawl, with an angry mob throwing bricks and bottles at a young girl; and

WHEREAS, The couple, both off-duty Chicago Police Department officers, worked together, drew their weapons, and ordered everyone on the ground; and

WHEREAS, Because of their unflinching bravery in the face of adversity, a young girl's life was spared and an angry mob was stopped before someone was seriously hurt; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being named Deputies of the Year, the couple also received a Letter of Commendation from Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart, and will also be receiving the Valor Award; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Officers Derrick and Monica Rhodes on the well-deserved accolades and awards for their heroism; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chicago Police Department K9 Specialist Derrick Rhodes and Sergeant Monica Rhodes as a symbol of our respect and admiration.
