HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bob Smith for
4 winning the 2010 Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State
5 Bar Association; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Bob Smith earned his associate's degree from
7 Highland Community College in Freeport in 1990 and his
8 bachelor's degree from Columbia College in Freeport in 2003;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, Bob Smith served his country with pride and
11 distinction as a military policeman with the United States Air
12 Force from July of 1975 until August of 1979; he earned the
13 Airman of the Month honors from the USAF on 2 occasions; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Bob Smith has had a long and distinguished career
15 with the Freeport Police Department; he began his career as a
16 patrolman on September 1, 1979; he steadily ascended through
17 the ranks of the department, with promotions to Corporal on
18 September 1, 1984, Sergeant on September 1, 1989, and
19 Lieutenant on July 30, 1991; on September 1, 1999, he was
20 promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, where he served until his
21 retirement in January of 2010; and

1     WHEREAS, Bob Smith is a member of numerous community
2 organizations; he serves as commissioner of the Jane Addams
3 Trail Commission and the Pecatonica Prairie Path Trail
4 Commission; he is a trustee and current Board President of the
5 Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois board of directors and the
6 Freeport Police Pension Board; he is a board member and
7 department representative on the local Family Violence
8 Prevention Board; he is a charter member of the Board of Key
9 Leaders of Freeport's Communities That Care; he is also a
10 member of the Group of Key Communicators; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Bob Smith was decorated with the Freeport Police
12 Department's merit award in 2000 for the successful resolution
13 of a murder case; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Bob Smith will receive the 2010 Law Enforcement
15 Award during an event in his honor at the Freeport Public
16 Library on May 10, 2010; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Bob Smith serves as a model of hard work,
18 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
19 Illinois; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 congratulate Bob Smith for winning the 2010 Law Enforcement

1 Award and wish him continued success and happiness in the
2 future; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Bob Smith as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
