HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Denene Wilmeth on her retirement from the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; and

WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Denene Wilmeth has been the executive director of the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; and

WHEREAS, When her husband passed away in 1976, she found herself with two children about to enter college and the responsibility of caring for her husband's elderly mother; after losing a bid for the local school board she was given a part-time job at the visitors bureau; and

WHEREAS, During her time as executive director she has received many awards and honors, including the United States Jaycee Women "Women in Government Award" in 1985 and the Women of Excellence, Business or Professional award; and

WHEREAS, She has served on the Decatur District 61 Board of Education, as Chair of the Illinois Association of School Boards Large District Council and Board of Directors, as Chair of the Decatur City Plan Commission, the Decatur Federal Enterprise Zone Committee, and the Eastern Illinois University Advisory Council for Applied Sciences; and

WHEREAS, She holds International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus Educational Certificates in Tourism Marketing, Convention Marketing, Communication, Convention Services, Finance and Administration, CEO, Research, Technology, and Illinois Bureau of Tourism, Heritage Tourism I and II; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Denene Wilmeth on her retirement, thank her for her years of service, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Denene Wilmeth as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
