HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gilbert C. Thiel of
4 Grayslake on the occasion of being honored by Squadrons and
5 Shipmates for his distinguished service during World War II;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, Squadrons and Shipmates is an organization
8 founded to reunite those serving aboard the aircraft carriers
9 USS Midway and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Gilbert Thiel served aboard the USS Midway from
11 1942 to 1946 as an aviation machinist mate and flight deck
12 inspector; he enlisted in the National Guard first, and then
13 joined the U.S. Navy while he was working at the Federal
14 Reserve Bank in Chicago as a cashier; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Gilbert Thiel is believed to be the oldest living
16 World War II veteran; he is a plank owner of the USS Midway, as
17 he was aboard the carrier when it was commissioned on September
18 10, 1945; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Gilbert Thiel's family, which includes his loving
20 wife, Gladys, his step-children, Sarah Mider, Rebecca Rikje,
21 and Mark Humage, and his step-grandchildren, Jessica Thayer,

1 Luke Albrecht, Ryan Rikje, Reva Rikje, Nicholas Castagna, and
2 Hannah Mider, are undoubtedly proud of Mr. Thiel and his many
3 accomplishments; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate Gilbert C. Thiel of Grayslake on the occasion of
7 being honored by Squadrons and Shipmates and wish them success
8 and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Gilbert Thiel as a symbol of our esteem and
11 respect.
