HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Officer Michael Robbins, who passed away September 13, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Officer Michael Robbins was born on June 3, 1951; he attended high school and enlisted in the Navy where he received a Bronze star for his service in the Vietnam War and went on to serve in the Navy Reserves; and

WHEREAS, Officer Robbins joined the Chicago Police Department in 1986 and worked in the Grand Crossing Districts; and

WHEREAS, Officer Robbins served the Chicago Police Department with honor and distinction for eight years prior to his injuries; and

WHEREAS, Officer Robbins was a proud member of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #7; and

WHEREAS, Officer Robbins became an advocate for gun control laws in the community and the State, spoke at the Democratic National Convention, directed the Epidemic Lowering Plan, and ran for the Illinois State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago Police Department has retired Officer Robbin's star, which is numbered 4203; and

WHEREAS, Officer Robbins leaves behind a daughter, two sons, a stepson, two grandchildren, and a brother; and

WHEREAS, Officer Michael Robbins dedicated and gave his life to protecting and serving the people of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with family, friends, and Fraternal Order of Police brothers and sisters, the passing of Officer Michael Robbins; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Officer Michael Robbins as an expression of our sympathy.
