HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kevin Moran of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Moran was born on July 4, 1921, in Ballyhaunis, in County Mayo, Ireland; as a teenager, he left Ireland for England to work construction jobs during World War II; he also did stints as a radio operator in Ireland's army and in the Irish Post Office; and

WHEREAS, In 1949, Kevin Moran moved to Chicago to live with his cousins, the O'Dwyers; shortly after moving to Chicago, he met Christine O'Neill; the couple married in 1954 and began having children and moving the family back and forth from Ireland to Chicago over the years, ultimately settling in Chicago in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Moran worked for many years in the construction industry; during his career, he worked on the Willis Tower, the Aon Center, and numerous other buildings in Chicago; he was well known by his peers for his artful, expertly-crafted woodwork and his constant pursuit of perfection in his work; he also traveled the country, working on carpentry and construction projects in his children's and grandchildren's homes in Illinois, California, and Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Moran was also well known by his family and friends for his fierce loyalty to his family, his homeland of Ireland, the United States, the Carpenters Union Local 13, and the Democratic Party; he also enjoyed Irish culture and music, particularly the concerts given by his youngest sons, and arguing about politics, religion, and world history; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Moran is survived by his wife, Christine; his sons, Patrick, Kevin, and Jackie; his daughters, Mary Buckley, Fionnuala Wagner, Chistine Martin, Kathleen Welch, Deirdre Pallasch, and Eileen Robertson; and his brother, Gerald; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Kevin Moran; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kevin Moran as an expression of our sympathy.
