HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Verna E. Horstman of Belleville, who passed away on October 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Verna Horstman was employed as a Juvenile Officer for the Belleville Police Department and the City of Belleville; she also worked as a fraud investigator for William C. Scott and as a secretary for School District #189 in East St. Louis; and

WHEREAS, Verna Horstman was a member of St. George Episcopal Church; she served as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital; she was also an avid Republican and a member of the Republican Women's Club; and

WHEREAS, Verna Horstman was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Horstman; her parents, Jesse C. and Mary P., nee Mayer, Nichols; her brothers, Bill Nichols, Jesse "Jit" Nichols, and Raymond Nichols; and her first husband, Eugene P. Clayton; and

WHEREAS, Verna Horstman is survived by her children, Thomas Clayton, Jana Riggins, Michael Horstman, James (Sue) Horstman, and Patrick (Denie) Horstman; her 7 grandchildren; her 5 great-grandchildren; her nieces, Nancy Cox and Sally Reiss; and her sister-in-law, Betty Horstman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Verna E. Horstman; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Verna Horstman as an expression of our sympathy.
