HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of
4Montgomery as they celebrate the village's 175th anniversary;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Daniel Gray and his family came to the area in
71835, arriving from Montgomery County, New York; they laid
8claim to a large area of land, a portion of which later was
9incorporated as the Village of Montgomery in 1858; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The area was originally known as Graytown when
11settled by Daniel Gray in 1835; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Today more than 17,000 people call the Village of
13Montgomery home; and
 
14    WHEREAS, A small home that was one of the earliest
15constructed by Daniel Gray was restored in 2010 and is now
16known as Settler's Cottage; today it is used as a museum,
17displaying items from the early days and history of Montgomery;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1congratulate the citizens of Montgomery on this anniversary
2occasion and wish them continued success in the future; and be
3it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Marilyn Michelini, Village President of
6Montgomery, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
