HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Michael Stablein of Chicago, who passed away on November 14, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Michael J. Stablein, DDS, PhD, served as president of the Chicago Dental Society; Dr. Stablein was an active member of organized dentistry since his graduation from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Stablein was elected treasurer of the Chicago Dental Society in 2006, and rose through the offices; his term as president began January 1, 2010; leading up to his years with the Board of Directors, Dr. Stablein held all offices in the West Side Branch, culminating in the presidency in 1992-1993 and a three-year term as Branch Director, from 1997 to 1999; and

WHEREAS, He served on the Chicago Dental Society's Access to Care, Mediation and Membership committees for several years before turning his attention to the Midwinter Meeting; he ultimately served as General Chair of the 139th Midwinter Meeting 2004; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Stablein was also an accomplished scholar; he had a certificate in periodontics and a doctorate in pathology from the University of Illinois-Chicago; he published several journal articles, and co-authored a chapter in The Histology of the Oral Mucosa; he was an instructor in periodontics and pathology at the University of Illinois-Chicago Medical Center from 1978 to 1987 and was a member of the University of Illinois at Chicago Dental Alumni Association Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Stablein was most proud of his family; he is survived by his wife, Dr. M. Caroline Scholtz; and their four children: Michael, Gabriela, Andrew, and Amelia; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Michael Stablein; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Michael Stablein as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
