HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Terry Hatch on the occasion of his retirement on December 31, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch served the citizens of Urbana as a pediatric gastroenterologist at Carle Clinic from 1973 to 2008, where he gained a sterling reputation for his compassion and devotion for his patients; he also served as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the Carle Clinic Association and Carle Foundation Hospital from 1998 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch has been an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); he has served on the AAP's Committee on Nutrition, 1990 Recertification Examination Prep Task Force, Nutritional Technical Panel, Course Task Force for Pediatrics in Review, Executive Committee of the Section on Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Course Committee of PREP, Chair Section on Gastroenterology, Appeals Committee, and Committee on Development; he served as a consultant representing AAP at the Residency Review Committee Regarding Accreditation Issues for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Programs; he also served as Nutrition Editor at AAP's Healthy Kids Magazine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch has been active in AAP's Illinois chapter as well; he served as President of the Illinois Downstate Pediatric Society from 1984 to 1985; he served on the Academy's Executive Committee from 1983 to 1984 and served as Treasurer from 1988 to 1989; he served as President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics from 1994 to 1996; he was also named Physician of the Year by the AAP's Illinois chapter; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch has served as an Associate Clinical Professor of both Pediatrics and Pediatric Nutrition with the Division of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he has served on various faculty committees and thesis committees, taught in various courses, and participated in and provided medical oversight in nutrition research; he also served as Clinical Education Center Director and as Curriculum Leader/Co-leader of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is a member of the Graduate College at the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch has served as a member and Chair of the Illinois State Medical Society's CME Accreditation Committee; he has served on the ISMS Committee on Workforce Issues; he is also active with the American Heart Association's Pediatric Advanced Life Support Regional Faculty; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch is the author of 31 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters; he has also reviewed various journals, including the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch is married to DiAnne Westermann Hatch; together, they have three sons; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Hatch serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Terry Hatch on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Terry Hatch as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
