HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Riverton Village President Joe Rusciolelli on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Joe Rusciolelli was born October 22, 1923 and has been a lifelong resident of the Village of Riverton, and throughout his life has been dedicated to serving the citizens of the Village; and

WHEREAS, Joe Rusciolelli was first elected Village Trustee in April 1975; he was appointed to fill the vacancy of the Village President in September 1978; he successfully ran for Village President in April 1979 to fill the remainder of the term; he was re-elected in 1981, 1985, and 1989; he was re-elected to office in April of 1997 and re-elected in 2001 and 2005; he served as Village President for 26 of the last 30 years; and

WHEREAS, During his many years of service and tenure as Village Trustee and Village President, Joe Rusciolelli continually met with constituents and business owners to discuss the many issues and concerns in the Village; he met regularly with township, county, State, and federal representatives to discuss issues and to seek grants and assistance that further supported the Village; and as a result of all his efforts, the Village has prospered and grown; and

WHEREAS, Through his actions and service, the Village of Riverton has expanded services at Wheeland Park, upgraded the Veterans Memorial in Veterans Park, created a new park at Field of Dreams with a new concession pavilion to be constructed, built a new Village Hall complex, including the utility billing office, the Police Station, the Library, and the community room, and improved and expanded sewer service by adding more sewer lines within the Village; in addition, a new sewer lagoon is under construction; and

WHEREAS, He helped to promote and pass the referendum to establish the Riverton Library District, upgraded the water service to include installation of new water towers, made upgrades to the water purification plant and installation of new water supply lines and new wells, continually upgraded and improved streets with normal maintenance and overlay projects, supported Village festivals at Riverfest and the Riverton Athletic Club, and implemented a city-wide recycling program; and

WHEREAS, He has decided not to run for another term as Village President; his retirement party is May 3, 2009; his last day in office will be at the Village Board Meeting on May 4, 2009, after which he will spend more time with his wife Mary and his other family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Joe Rusciolelli on his retirement and commend him for his hard work and dedication to the Village of Riverton, and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Riverton Village President Joe Rusciolelli as a symbol of our respect and admiration.
