HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jim Bain on his retirement as a referee with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Missouri Valley Conference; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bain graduated from Granite City High School in 1951 and attended Shurteleff College in Alton from 1953 to 1956; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bain is retired as Vice-President of Central National Bank of Mattoon; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bain has always been involved in sports, whether playing professional baseball with the New York Yankees Class Farm Club in 1951 and 1952, officiating at the 1972 Olympics held in Munich, Germany, or officiating at four NCAA Final Four games; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bain officiated at NCAA basketball games from 1958 to 1991 in the Big 10, Big 8, Missouri Valley, and Metro Conferences; since 1991 he has been the Coordinator of Men's Basketball Referees in the Missouri Valley Conference; and

WHEREAS, Through the years, Jim Bain has successfully mentored many officials in the NCAA and will be missed for his leadership and officiating skills; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jim Bain and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jim Bain as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
