HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate John F. Piazza on the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the Village of Lemont; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's degree from DePaul University; and

WHEREAS, John Piazza was first elected to serve as Mayor of Lemont in April of 2001; in 2005, he was elected to a second 4-year term as Mayor; and

WHEREAS, Under John Piazza's leadership, the Village of Lemont annexed, rezoned, and improved the property along the I & M and Sanitary & Ship Canals and expanded the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area; the village has also seen improved traffic conditions, downtown revitalization, insistence on high quality residential and commercial development, and an aggressive economic development program; the new public works and police facilities were designed and constructed during Mayor Piazza's administration as well; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor, John Piazza has personally raised and distributed about $200,000 to local charities, food pantries, service organizations, veterans' organizations, and youth programs in the community of Lemont through the Mayor's Drive for Charity; and

WHEREAS, Before serving as Mayor, John Piazza was a member of the Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A Board of Education for two years; he also holds a full-time position with Country Insurance and Financial Services; and

WHEREAS, John Piazza serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee of the Southwest Conference of Mayors; he is also affiliated with the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and the Will County Governmental League; and

WHEREAS, John Piazza serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John Piazza on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Piazza as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
