HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tyrone Kenner of Chicago, who passed away on April 27, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner had been a Chicago police officer and community organizer when he successfully ran for alderman in 1971; and

WHEREAS, His efforts to rejuvenate the 3rd ward, a tough patch of the South Side that included the Robert Taylor public-housing high-rises, included renovations for the 47th Street "L" platform and various anti-crime measures; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner grew up in south suburban Robbins and graduated from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island; he served in the United States Air Force and worked as a Chicago police officer and a boxing promoter before getting into community work; and

WHEREAS, Before his election as alderman, he was deputy director of the Chicago Committee on Urban Opportunity; in recent years he was an assistant engineer at Cook County Jail; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner is survived by two sons, Howard and Rev. Brian Kenner; his daughters, Renee Kenner-Clay, Kim Wash, Tonja Simmons, and Sonja; and 26 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone Kenner; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tyrone Kenner as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
