HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor the memory of Gilda Radner, comedienne, on this 20th anniversary of her passing; and

WHEREAS, Gilda was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October 1986 and later passed away in May 1989; and

WHEREAS, During her fight with cancer, Gilda was introduced to cancer support groups to help her better cope with her illness and understand her experience; and

WHEREAS, Gilda's dream was to develop a community where anyone with cancer could receive the kind of support she found; and

WHEREAS, Gilda's Club was founded in 1991 to provide support to people living with cancer, their friends and families; and

WHEREAS, Gilda's Club Chicago was founded in 1998 to build social, emotional, and informational support as an essential supplement to medical care for people diagnosed with cancer and their families and friends; and

WHEREAS, Gilda's Club Chicago has offered free support to more than 6,000 members and thousands more family and friends from the Chicagoland area who have been affected by cancer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gilda's Club Chicago as an expression of our gratitude and respect for their support of people living with cancer in honor of Gilda Radner.
