HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives and State Representative Monique D. Davis are proud of our native son, Derrick Rose, and his rise to basketball dominance with the Chicago Bulls; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was born on October 4, 1988 in Chicago; he was the first player taken in the June 2008 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, selected by the Chicago Bulls; he has completed one season in the NBA, and was named NBA Rookie of the Year; and

WHEREAS, He played basketball while attending Simeon High School and was an All-State guard his junior and senior years, leading his team to State championships both years; he went on to attend and play college basketball at the University of Memphis; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was the nation's top point guard in the 2006-2007 college rankings; he was named to the USA Today 2007 All-USA Team (first team) and the 2007 Parade Magazine All-America Team; he was also selected to the 2007 SLAM magazine and MaxPreps.com All-America first teams; and

WHEREAS, He was a 2007 EA Sports All-America first team pick and a 2006 EA Sports All-America second team selection; he was named 2007 Illinois Mr. Basketball by the Chicago Tribune; and he played in the Jordan Brand and McDonald's All-America games; and

WHEREAS, He is known to be quiet, polite, and friendly off the court, but is tough, competitive, and confident when he is playing against another team; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Derrick Rose for being a part of Illinois sports history and look forward to watching his career with the Chicago Bulls; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Derrick Rose as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
