HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel Benjamin Jones, Jr. of Chicago, who passed away on August 15, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on December 8, 1987 to Daniel and Maronda Jones; he was educated at St. Columbanus Catholic school, Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville, and Howard University; during high school he was a member of the National Honor Society, Who's Who Among National High School Students, and the recipient of many scholarships, including a scholarship from Operation PUSH; and

WHEREAS, Daniel attended Howard University at the age of 16 and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, where he did volunteer work with the organization; during his summer months, he would work for the Illinois Secretary of State, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Chicago Board of Education; while attending Howard University he worked for the Palomar Hotel, Busboys and Poets, and Marc Park; and

WHEREAS, In the spring of 2009 he moved to Fort Worth, Texas and worked for the Omni Hotel; and

WHEREAS, Affectionately known as DJ, he was a well-liked young man, quiet, with a bright smile; he loved sports, music, philosophy, and life; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Benjamin Jones, Jr. is survived by his parents, Daniel Jones, Sr. and Maronda Peel (Dewayne Sandifer); his sisters, Victoria Jones and Danelle Jones; his grandmothers, Mary Ann (Walter) Buchanan and Ben Ella Jones; his grandfather, Thomas Jones; his great-grandmother, Lillie Mae Brady; his aunts, Cheryl Jones, Brenda Peel, and India Helm; and a host of other relatives and dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Daniel Benjamin Jones, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel Benjamin Jones, Jr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
