HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. G. Richard Locke of Decatur, who passed away on August 29, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on January 12, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio; he attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he met Judy Blang; they both graduated from DePauw and were married August 2, 1958; and

WHEREAS, He received his M.D. from Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was Alpha Omega Alpha and then trained in Radiology at the University of Iowa; after serving in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, the Lockes moved to Decatur; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Locke came to Decatur Memorial Hospital to bring cancer care to the community and was later the Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the hospital until his retirement in 2002; he was a Fellow in the American College of Radiology and served on the Board of Trustees of DePauw University and Millikin University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Locke is survived by his wife, Judy Locke; his four sons, Giles Richard Locke III M.D. (Jean), Jonathan Locke M.D. (Kathy), Mark Locke M.D. (Sarah), and J. Michael Locke J.D., M.B.A. (Heather); his 14 grandchildren, Katherine and Giles Richard Locke IV (Chip), Madeline, Emily, Anna, Jack, Elllie, Charles, Henry, William, J. Michael (Skip), Catherine, Caroline, and Graham; and his sisters, Jane Thompson (Jim) and Helen Layden (Jim); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. G. Richard Locke; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. G. Richard Locke as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
