| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Winston | 4 |
| Kennedy, consummate Hyde Parker for more than 50 years, on | 5 |
| February 1, 2009; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Win began his working career as a resident manager | 7 |
| with the Chicago Housing Authority; he lived in the same | 8 |
| housing project in which he worked, LeClaire Courts, which was | 9 |
| one of the first integrated housing projects in the country; | 10 |
| and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, In 1967, after 11 years in the University of | 12 |
| Chicago real estate development department, Mr. Kennedy and two | 13 |
| associates founded the real estate firm Century 21 Kennedy, | 14 |
| Ryan, Monigal & Associates, Inc.; they specialized in the | 15 |
| unique buildings of Hyde Park and the surrounding neighborhoods | 16 |
| for more than 40 years; and
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Win, using his real estate knowledge, committed | 18 |
| himself to preserving the integrity of more than 25 of Hyde | 19 |
| Park's buildings in the 1970s through condominium conversions; | 20 |
| and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Win was a devoted member of Kiwanis for more than |

| 50 years; he worked with the service organization to support | 2 |
| neighborhood institutions and combat the many problems facing | 3 |
| South Side youth; through Kiwanis, he was also able to provide | 4 |
| service and support to other community organizations for which | 5 |
| he cared deeply, such as the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, a | 6 |
| camp for disabled children, and the 57th Street Children's Book | 7 |
| Fair; and | 8 |
| WHEREAS, Win served on the boards of several neighborhood | 9 |
| organizations, including the Hyde Park Historical Society, | 10 |
| Blue Gargoyle Community Services, and the Hyde Park Kenwood | 11 |
| Community Conference; he also served on the boards of the | 12 |
| former Hyde Park Co-Op and the former Hyde Park YMCA; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Win believed that the way in which one conducted | 14 |
| business was just as important as the profit; he always | 15 |
| expected relationships to outlast business deals and conducted | 16 |
| himself accordingly; he believed that if one made money in a | 17 |
| community, there was a responsibility to give back to that | 18 |
| community; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Winston Kennedy will be deeply felt | 20 |
| by his wife, Margaret; his four children, Patricia, Pamela, | 21 |
| Thomas, and Robert; his seven grandchildren, Devon, Kyle, | 22 |
| Ashleigh, Cory, Cameron, Lena, and Tatiana; his sister, June | 23 |
| Fellows; his brother, Wayne; and the whole of the Hyde Park and |

| Kenwood communities; therefore, be it
| 2 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 3 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 4 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of | 5 |
| Winston Kennedy; and be it further
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 |
| presented to the family of Winston Kennedy as a symbol of our | 8 |
| sincere sympathy.
