HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United States Army Private First Class Devin Michel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Stockton, who was killed in the line of duty while serving in the Zhari District, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, on October 24, 2009; and

WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel was born on August 3, 1990; he was the son of Terry and Rebecca (Broshous) Michel; he married Anika Entmeier on October 3, 2008; and

WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel was a 2008 graduate of Stockton High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and was a member of the band; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, PFC Devin Michel enlisted in the United States Army as an infantryman; he began basic training on June 14, 2008, at Fort Benning, Georgia; after basic training, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division based out of Fort Carson, Colorado; on May 30, 2009, he was deployed on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel enjoyed playing sports, spending time with his dog, Jade, and playing drums; and

WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel is survived by his wife, Anika; his parents, Terry and Rebecca Michel; his sisters, Holly and Catey Michel; his grandparents, Elmer and Lois Miller and Rod and Kathryn Broshous; and his great-grandmother, Winnifred (Harold Gallagher) Luke; and

WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel's patriotism and courage will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United States Army Private First Class Devin Michel; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of PFC Devin Michel as an expression of our sympathy.
