HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Elizabeth
4 C. Hanson of Rockford, who was tragically killed while
5 defending America's freedom at a remote base in the mountains
6 of Afghanistan on December 30, 2009; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hanson was born in February of 1979 in
8 Rockford; she was the daughter of Duane Hanson Jr.; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hanson was a 1997 graduate of Keith
10 Country Day School; she attended Colby College in Waterville,
11 Maine, where she majored in economics with a concentration in
12 financial markets and Russian language and culture; she
13 frequently made the dean's list during college; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hanson was attending Colby College at
15 the time of the September 11th attacks in New York; the event
16 prompted her to explore the relationship between religion and
17 economics and to dedicate her life to defending America's
18 freedom; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hanson joined the CIA as a specialist;
20 she was tasked with finding Islamic extremists and was part of
21 a team that collects information about militant networks in

1 Afghanistan and Pakistan; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Elizabeth Hanson dedicated her life to defending
3 America's freedom and gave the ultimate sacrifice; she will be
4 missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who had the
5 honor of knowing her during her life; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 mourn, along with her family, friends, and the citizens of a
9 grateful nation, the passing of Elizabeth C. Hanson; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Elizabeth Hanson as a symbol of our
13 sincere sympathy and respect.
