HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was born
3 on January 15, 1929; Dr. King dedicated his life to the pursuit
4 of equality for all, regardless of race, creed, or origin; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Martin Luther King Jr. changed our nation forever
6 through his leadership, service, and vision; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Through his determination and spirit, Martin
8 Luther King Jr. led one of the greatest movements for equality
9 and freedom in history; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dr. King's movement still continues to this day;
11 he advocated non-violent means to overcome the evil of racism
12 in our society and broke down barriers within our society by
13 encouraging Americans to look past their differences; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The citizens of this great nation are challenged
15 to demonstrate a commitment toward ending prejudice in the
16 United States and bring to fruition Dr. King's dream of making
17 America a better place for all; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 recognize the life and legacy of Dr. Reverend Martin Luther

1 King Jr. and urge the people of the State of Illinois and the
2 nation at large to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the
3 third Monday of January each year; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the North Shore Minister's Alliance of Lake
6 County.
