HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bradley Eugene Horton of Peoria, who passed away January 29, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Eugene Horton was born October 3, 1950 to William "Bill" and Bernice E. Deets Horton of Dixon; he was the older of two children, having a younger brother, Brian; and

WHEREAS, He excelled in athletics and extracurricular activities at Polo Community High School; he was a receiver on the football team, played forward on the basketball team (on which he also had the highest free throw shooting percentage), was the track team's best high jumper, and participated in band, chorus, and drama club; he graduated with the Class of 1968; and

WHEREAS, He went on to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree from Western Illinois University in 1972 and earned his MBA from Western Illinois University in 1974; after collegiate studies, he went to work for Jenn Realty and taught business classes at Midstate College in Peoria; he would later teach real estate courses at Illinois Central College; and

WHEREAS, In 1975, Bradley left real estate to work in the Peoria Township Assessor's Office; after the death of incumbent assessor Bob Potter, he mounted campaigns for the assessor position in 1981 and 1982 and won the position, a position which he held for five terms and was recognized for his service of over 18 years as Township Assessor; and

WHEREAS, While serving as Peoria Township Assessor, he taught others as an instructor for the Illinois Property Assessment Institute; he continued educating other assessors in Illinois and Indiana until his death; and

WHEREAS, He was elected Peoria County Recorder of Deeds in 2000; as Recorder of Deeds he was responsible for the recording, scanning, and microfilming of legally executed real estate documents and maintaining records dating back to 1825; and

WHEREAS, He was active in local politics as a member of the Board of Directors and later, President, of the 2nd Ward Republican Men's Club, as well as serving as a Republican Precinct Committeeman; and

WHEREAS, He was active in his community, serving as past president of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, as a member of the Peoria Township Officials Organization, Peoria County Assessor's Association, Illinois Assessor's Association, and on the statewide Board of Directors of the Township Officials of Illinois for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Bradley Horton is survived by his wife, Nancy Kay Gustine Horton; his daughter, Alicia; his son-in-law, Derek, and his two grandsons, Cayden and Brady; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bradley Eugene Horton; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bradley Eugene Horton as an expression of our sincere sympathy.
