SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of John Verbais of Alton, who passed away on
4 March 2, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, John Verbais was born on Sept. 9, 1918 in Girard;
6 his parents were the late John and Louise (Draksler) Verbais;
7 he lived his early life in Springfield before moving to the
8 Alton area; he married Frances Kathleen Burnett, who passed
9 away in 1973; he later married Claudine Clarida, who preceded
10 him in death in 1996; and
 
11     WHEREAS, John Verbais served his country as a member of the
12 United States Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean
13 War; and
 
14     WHEREAS, John Verbais retired as an employee of Illinois
15 Bell Telephone Company in 1980 after 40 years of service; he
16 served as a manager at the Central Office of network operations
17 in Alton; and
 
18     WHEREAS, John Verbais enjoyed spending time with family and
19 friends; he also enjoyed his membership with several community
20 organizations, such as the Alton American Legion Post 126,
21 Alton Eagle Lodge 254, Wood River Moose Lodge 1349, and

1 Bethalto Knights of Columbus Council 4688; he was also a
2 lifetime member of VFW Post 1308; and
 
3     WHEREAS, John Verbais was a past president of the Telephone
4 Pioneers of America; he was a former member of St. Matthew's
5 Catholic Church; and
 
6     WHEREAS, John Verbais was preceded in death by his parents;
7 his wives; and his sister, Louise Egger; and
 
8     WHEREAS, John Verbais is survived by his daughter and
9 son-in law, Sharon and Terry Jansen; his son and
10 daughter-in-law, Michael and Denise Verbais; his grandchildren
11 and spouses, Todd and Ashley Jansen, Brian and Sammy Jansen,
12 Sean and Brandi Jansen, Melissa and Matt O'Connor, Chad and
13 Sarah Verbais, and Daron and Joan Verbais; his
14 great-grandchildren, Haley, Logan, Taylor, and Braydon Jansen;
15 Miranda, Dalton, and Gracie Graves; Alex Spies and Madison
16 Jansen; Keegan O'Connor and Tyler Verbais; Vincent, Davis, and
17 Knox Verbais, Scott Hinko; and Mary and Tom Verbais; his
18 sister, Helen Davsko; his brother, Henry R. Verbais; his many
19 nieces and nephews; and his long-time companion, Millie Breden;
20 therefore, be it
 
21     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
22 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

1 his family and friends, the passing of John Verbais; and be it
2 further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of John Verbais as an expression of our
5 sympathy.
