SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert F. Hillenbrand of Naperville, who passed away on July 24, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Robert F. Hillenbrand was born March 5, 1925, in Woodcliff, New Jersey, to immigrant parents; he was a 1950 graduate of North Central College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Chicago and an additional graduate degree, the Advanced Certificate, from the University of Illinois; he was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa professional fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hillenbrand taught in the Bensenville and Elmhurst elementary schools, followed by 29 years as an elementary school administrator in Naperville School District 203; he was an elementary teaching principal in St. Charles and was a principal of four Naperville schools; in his retirement, he acted as a hearing officer for 15 years; and

WHEREAS, He was the past president of the DuPage Elementary Principals Association, and a member of the City Plan Commission and the Naperville Sesquicentennial Committee; he maintained a strong interest in the future of North Central College and had deep connections with the Community United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hillenbrand was an avid reader and storyteller, and led discussions for his church class' book group, as well as sponsoring "Books Between Bites" at the Community United Methodist Church; he was a World War II Army veteran, entering the army upon graduation in 1943, from Mooseheart Academy in Batavia; he served with the Tenth Mountain Division, earning the Bronze Star for meritorious service in combat near Gaggio Montano, Italy; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and sister; and

WHEREAS, He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years and a former Naperville kindergarten teacher, Betty (nee Jacobson); his daughters, Ashleyann (Ann Clare) Hillenbrand Carlson and Martha Beth Hillenbrand Jones; and his grandchildren, Daniel Warren Jones and Katherine Hillary Jones; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Hillenbrand; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Hillenbrand as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
