SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ray Schmitt; and

WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt devoted more than 20 years of service to the City of Streator as both a City Council member and mayor; in 1999, he was elected to serve as the Mayor of the City of Streator; he was voted to serve for a third term in April of 2007; and

WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt was employed at the Owens-Brockway Glass factory for approximately 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt was active in numerous charitable events; he brought Relay For Life to the city after losing his sister to breast cancer; he also volunteered for Light Up Streator and served as a guest speaker at several community service organizations; and

WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt is survived by his wife, Donna, and their 3 children; and

WHEREAS, Ray Schmitt will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a plain-spoken and compassionate man whose love for his family and city were unmatched; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Ray Schmitt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ray Schmitt as an expression of our sympathy.
