SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Many Vietnam War Veterans' service has gone
3 unnoticed for decades and deserves honorable recognition; and
 
4     WHEREAS, In 1965, United States Armed Forces ground combat
5 units were deployed to Vietnam with peak involvement of around
6 500,000 troops in 1969; and
 
7     WHEREAS, In March 30, 1973, the United States had withdrawn
8 all of its troops from Vietnam, but not before the United
9 States Armed Forces lost more than 58,000 soldiers and had more
10 than 300,000 wounded soldiers; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Approximately 3,000 Illinoisans were killed or
12 listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Soldiers of the United States Armed Forces served
14 not only loyally but courageously and deserve honorable
15 acknowledgment on this and all Memorial Days; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The Patriot Committee of Dundee Township in
17 Carpentersville, has organized, "Welcome Home Tribute for our
18 Vietnam Veterans" for all members of the United States Armed
19 Forces who served during the Vietnam War; and

1     WHEREAS, This tribute will include a Healing Field
2 dedicated to honoring service men and women declared Prisoners
3 of War or Missing in Action during the Vietnam War; therefore,
4 be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we proclaim May 27
7 through May 31, 2010, as the "Welcome Home tribute for our
8 Vietnam Veterans" weekend in Carpentersville; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, We recognize the Patriot Committee of Dundee
10 Township, their volunteers, and sponsors for all of their hard
11 work and dedication to organizing this tribute to Vietnam War
12 Veterans; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the Patriot Committee of Dundee Township.
