SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Robert "J.R." Phillip Sr., of
4Westmont and formerly of Hinsdale, who passed away on June 22,
52010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on July 8, 1925 to James A.
7and Helen Phillip; he was a navigator in the United States Air
8Force during World War II; he graduated from Northwestern
9University with a commerce degree; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After graduation he joined his parents' flower
11business, Phillip's Flowers & Gifts, founded in Cicero, in
121923, where he remained actively involved for 61 years, serving
13as Chairman Emeritus until his passing; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He was a co-founder and director of the Bank of
15LaGrange Park, a co-founder of the Metro Chicago Florist
16Delivery Co-op, and a member of the American Academy of
17Floriculture (AAF); and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was a man of faith and family, and was also a
19longtime member and past elder of Christ Church of Oak Brook;

1    WHEREAS, James Robert "J.R." Phillip Sr. is survived by his
2loving wife of 59 years, Mary B. Phillip; his sister, Lee
3Phillip Bell; his brother and business colleague, Russell
4Phillip; his children, Jim (Gwen), Don (Sandy), and Baxter
5(Martha) Phillip; his eight grandchildren; and his one
6great-grandson; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9his family and friends, the passing of James Phillip Sr.; and
10be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of James Phillip Sr. as a symbol of our
13sincere sympathy.
