SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Christine Alexander of Glenwood, who
4recently passed away; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born on January 26, 1922 in McNeil,
6Arkansas, to the late Bloomer and Jonah Buffington, Sr.; she
7accepted Christ at an early age at St. Matthew Missionary
8Baptist Church in McNeil, Arkansas; she attended elementary
9school at St. Matthew and graduated from Hobson High School in
10Earlyview; and
 
11    WHEREAS, She married Fred Alexander on December 25, 1940
12and they moved to Chicago to start their new life; Christine
13attended and graduated from APEX School of Cosmetology and
14became the owner of her own beauty salon in her home; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Together with her husband, Christine Alexander
16were active in the community, working with the Greater Lawndale
17Community as well as the local 1800 Drake Block Club; in 1956
18Christine won the 1800 Drake Block Club Beautification Award,
19one of her proudest memories; and
 
20    WHEREAS, She was a long time and active parishioner at Our
21Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for many years and later

1at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she worked with the
2Altar and Rosary Society and other church ministries; and
 
3    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her
4parents; her siblings, Walter, Ora Belle, Paul, Jonah Jr., and
5Susie; and her son-in-law, John Blakey; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Christine Alexander is survived by her daughters,
7Dr. Evonne F. Blakey, Deborah A. Henderson (Jerald), and Mary
8Stanback (Albert); her grandchildren, Randall K. Blakey
9(Sonya), Ricia C. Blakey (Trenton), and Aaron A. Henderson
10(Maja); her great-grandchildren, Noel Z. Blakey, Destinee F.
11Blakey, Justice A. Taylor, and Zion G. Taylor; and a host of
12special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15her family and friends, the passing of Christine Alexander; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Christine Alexander as a symbol of
19our sincere sympathy.
