SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Christine Alexander of Glenwood, who recently passed away; and

WHEREAS, She was born on January 26, 1922 in McNeil, Arkansas, to the late Bloomer and Jonah Buffington, Sr.; she accepted Christ at an early age at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in McNeil, Arkansas; she attended elementary school at St. Matthew and graduated from Hobson High School in Earlyview; and

WHEREAS, She married Fred Alexander on December 25, 1940 and they moved to Chicago to start their new life; Christine attended and graduated from APEX School of Cosmetology and became the owner of her own beauty salon in her home; and

WHEREAS, Together with her husband, Christine Alexander were active in the community, working with the Greater Lawndale Community as well as the local 1800 Drake Block Club; in 1956 Christine won the 1800 Drake Block Club Beautification Award, one of her proudest memories; and

WHEREAS, She was a long time and active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for many years and later at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she worked with the Altar and Rosary Society and other church ministries; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her siblings, Walter, Ora Belle, Paul, Jonah Jr., and Susie; and her son-in-law, John Blakey; and

WHEREAS, Christine Alexander is survived by her daughters, Dr. Evonne F. Blakey, Deborah A. Henderson (Jerald), and Mary Stanback (Albert); her grandchildren, Randall K. Blakey (Sonya), Ricia C. Blakey (Trenton), and Aaron A. Henderson (Maja); her great-grandchildren, Noel Z. Blakey, Destinee F. Blakey, Justice A. Taylor, and Zion G. Taylor; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Christine Alexander; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Christine Alexander as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
