SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Reverend James L. Demus III, who passed
4away on September 23, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III served as senior pastor
6of Park Manor Christian Church for the last 25 years; under
7Rev. Demus' leadership, Park Manor grew into one of the largest
8African American churches in the Disciples of Christ
9denomination; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III served as executive
11director of the Chicago South Side NAACP; he was a Rainbow PUSH
12official; he helped found the Ministerial Alliance Against the
13Digital Divide, a 30,000+ member next-generation civil rights
14organization that is devoted to bridging the Digital Divide and
15promoting personal and economic development in low-income and
16minority communities across the country; he also was the chief
17organizer for the original Million Man March; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III is survived by his wife,
19Eleanor; his sons, Joshua Von Demus and James L. Demus IV; his
20stepchildren, Robyn L. Cushingberry, Marie C. Babb-Fowler, and
21Lamont Sharp, and his grandchildren, Anna J. Chapman-Demus,
22Candyce L. Black, Brittany Thompson, and Andrew Babb-Fowler;

2    WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III will be fondly remembered
3by his loving family and friends and the congregation of Park
4Manor Christian Church as a faithful servant to his community
5and a shining beacon of hope; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8his family and friends, the passing of Reverend James L. Demus
9III; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Reverend James Demus III as an
12expression of our sympathy.
