SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gerald M. Sheridan Jr. of Wheaton, who
4passed away on September 18, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and
6graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst;
7he graduated from DePaul University with a bachelor's degree
8and received his law degree from the DePaul College of Law,
9where he served as editor of the law review; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He served in the United States Navy for four
11years; he opened a law practice in Wheaton, concentrating on
12airport litigation, after practicing in Aurora and Chicago; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After serving on a school district long-range
14planning committee, Mr. Sheridan was appointed in 1980 to fill
15a vacancy on the Community Unit District #200 Board of
16Education and won a two-year term on the Board in November of
171981; during a difficult time of tight finances and declining
18enrollments for the school district, Mr. Sheridan exhibited
19leadership in district reorganization and in labor relations;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, He served as president of the United Way of

1Wheaton and Carol Stream and he was active in the Greater
2Wheaton Chamber of Commerce; and
3
4    WHEREAS, Gerald Sheridan is survived by his wife, Lois; his
5son, Mark; his daughters, Amy Sheridan-Dufresne, Vicki
6Sheridan-Davison, and Polly Sheridan-Kenny; his brother, Tom;
7his sisters, Patricia Pearson and Janet Erwin; and his
8seventeen grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11his family and friends, the passing of Gerald Sheridan Jr.; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Gerald M. Sheridan Jr. as a symbol
15of our sincere sympathy.
