SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Elon "Lon" Wilson Frampton Jr., who
4passed away on December 20, 2010 at the age of 86; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton was born to Elon Wilson Sr. and Anna
6(Callahan) Frampton in New York City, New York on July 27,
71924; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton married Priscilla Burhans in
9Alexandria, Virginia on August 16, 1958, and she passed away
10on June 30, 2022; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton began his science career at the
12Hospital of the Rockefeller Institute in New York City; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton served in the U.S. Army during World
14War II, through which he was accepted into the Army
15Specialized Training Program; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton later joined the 78th Division HQ
17Special Troops Medical Detachment and served as a medic in the
18European Theater; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton's service included being present at

1the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Remagen; and
 
2    WHEREAS, After the war's conclusion, Lon Frampton worked
3in the laboratory at University College Hospital in London,
4England; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton's educational journey led him to
6receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University, a
7Master of Science degree from Northwestern University, and a
8Ph.D. in bacteriology from the University of Illinois at
9Urbana-Champaign; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton served on the faculty at the
11University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as
12a radiation biologist for ten years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton later joined the faculty at Northern
14Illinois University in the Department of Biological Sciences;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton established R&F Laboratories with
17Dr. Lawrence Restaino, a laboratory specializing in food
18safety research and testing; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton loved golfing and baseball and was a
20lifelong fan of the Major League Baseball team the Athletics,

1from their original home in Philadelphia to their current home
2in Oakland; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton was a member of First United
4Methodist Church in DeKalb, the American Society for
5Microbiology, Sigma Xi, and the Radiation Research Society;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton was preceded in death by his parents
8and his brother, Frank; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lon Frampton is survived by his son, Richard, and
10his daughter, Gail; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Elon "Lon" Wilson Frampton Jr. and extend our sincere
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Elon Frampton as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
