SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois Senate represents all the citizens of Illinois, including the police and fire departments, community development, school superintendents, principals, teachers, professors, city management, human resources, neighborhood services, planning and zoning, business owners, church leaders, and families, young and old; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed to fostering a culture of peace and nonviolence through education, sustainable economic and social development, a clean environment, and racial, gender, and intergenerational justice; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed to promoting human rights, advancing understanding, tolerance, and solidarity, and supporting participation, communication, and the free flow of information; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed to creating and implementing initiatives that not only foster peace and nonviolence but also create a positive and lasting change in our State; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate believe that all segments of our State deserve inclusion in planning actions, resource allocations, nonviolence training, restorative justice practices, and budgetary priorities; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed to the rejection of violence, poverty, injustice, and environmental degradation in conjunction with the Pace e Bene Campaign for Nonviolence, which includes the Nonviolence Cities Project; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the United Nations Resolution designating September 21 as "International Day of Peace" and declare September 21 of 2023 and 2024 to be "Day of Peace" in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge the month of September in 2023 and 2024 to be used as a time of renewal, evaluation, and improvement of policies establishing regional peace and nonviolence in perpetuity; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we proclaim the State of Illinois to be a Nonviolent State.
