SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois Senate represents all the citizens
3of Illinois, including the police and fire departments,
4community development, school superintendents, principals,
5teachers, professors, city management, human resources,
6neighborhood services, planning and zoning, business owners,
7church leaders, and families, young and old; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed
9to fostering a culture of peace and nonviolence through
10education, sustainable economic and social development, a
11clean environment, and racial, gender, and intergenerational
12justice; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed
14to promoting human rights, advancing understanding, tolerance,
15and solidarity, and supporting participation, communication,
16and the free flow of information; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed
18to creating and implementing initiatives that not only foster
19peace and nonviolence but also create a positive and lasting
20change in our State; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate believe that

1all segments of our State deserve inclusion in planning
2actions, resource allocations, nonviolence training,
3restorative justice practices, and budgetary priorities; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are committed
5to the rejection of violence, poverty, injustice, and
6environmental degradation in conjunction with the Pace e Bene
7Campaign for Nonviolence, which includes the Nonviolence
8Cities Project; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the United
11Nations Resolution designating September 21 as "International
12Day of Peace" and declare September 21 of 2023 and 2024 to be
13"Day of Peace" in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we urge the month of September in 2023 and
152024 to be used as a time of renewal, evaluation, and
16improvement of policies establishing regional peace and
17nonviolence in perpetuity; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That we proclaim the State of Illinois to be a
19Nonviolent State.
