SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of David A. Holcomb of Milan, who passed
4away on November 16, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Holcomb was born to Harry and Esther
6(Formhals) Holcomb in Morris on January 8, 1936; he graduated
7from Morris High School in 1954; he earned his Bachelor of Arts
8and Master of Arts in Music Education from Illinois State
9University; he served in the U.S. Army, playing baritone horn
10in the 5th U.S. Army Band and in the U.S. Army Band in Germany
11for several years; he married Gail Emerson in Morton in 1969;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, David Holcomb taught music in the Rock Island
14Public Schools for 34 years; he also served as the band
15director of Ambrose Jazz for a time; and
 
16    WHEREAS, David Holcomb was a well-known jazz pianist in
17the Quad Cities, playing in numerous venues throughout the
18area; he was known for his ability to entertain with both his
19music and his wit; and
 
20    WHEREAS, David Holcomb was preceded in death by his
21parents and his siblings, Joel, Henrietta, Rachel, Ruth, and

1Carl; and
 
2    WHEREAS, David Holcomb is survived by his wife of 54
3years, Gail; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and
4great-nephews; and his poodles, Billie and Oscar; therefore,
5be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8David A. Holcomb and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of David Holcomb as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
