SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Debbie Duncan Reed of Quincy, who
4passed away on January 4, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed was born to Linda Mary Duncan and
6John David Duncan on February 11, 1965; she attended Unity
7High School, where she was in band, played sports, and raised
8and sold Christmas trees for 4-H; she was later crowned Adams
9County Pork Queen in honor of her work supporting Illinois
10Pork Producers; she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism
11and Mass Communication from Drake University; she married Dr.
12Brennan Reed, and they lived in St. Louis, Missouri at the
13start of their marriage while Brennan was completing his
14residency; she obtained her Master of Arts in Leadership from
15Bellevue University in 2006 and her Doctor of Philosophy in
16Organizational Leadership from Concordia University in 2021;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed began her non-profit career working
19with the American Lung Association; following her husband
20Brennan's residency, they moved back to Quincy, where Debbie
21created her own marketing and publishing firm, The DDR Group;
22while she enjoyed her stint in entrepreneurship, her passion
23for helping people led her back to the world of non-profits;

1she began a 30-year career at Chaddock to support children in
2need, where she excelled and moved from from director of
3marketing to president/CEO; during her tenure, she combined
4her non-profit and entrepreneurial experience to expand
5Chaddock's mission and played a pivotal role in achieving
6major milestones at Chaddock, including building a LEAD
7certified cottage and the opening of the new Chaddock School,
8the Chaddock satellite school in Carthage, and the Knowledge
9Center at Chaddock; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed also shared her passion for
11leadership through her blog, Reed about Leadership, and
12authored two books, Attachment Theory in Action and Raising
13the Challenging Child; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed made national and international
15impact in leadership roles through the United Methodist
16Association (UMA), where she was recently featured as a
17keynote speaker and was honored with the UMA Mission Award;
18she was a lifelong member of the Ellington Presbyterian
19Church, contributing to the church session, the Vacation Bible
20School experience, and countless church dinners; she led the
21Ellington Hilltoppers 4-H Club, receiving the Dale Donley 4-H
22Leader of the Year Award for her work; recently, she was
23recognized by her local community, receiving the KHQA Hometown
24Hero Award and being named a YWCA Woman of Impact; and

1    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed, with her infectious spirit and
2never-ending patience, was known for always looking for
3opportunities to help people in need and solve problems and
4for always finding time for friends and family, traveling, and
5investing in her community; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed was preceded in death by her father;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Debbie Reed is survived by her husband of 38
9years, Brennan; her sons, Tanner and Landon; her mother; her
10brother, Doug (Kim) Duncan; her sister, Donna (Mike) Jansen;
11her brother-in-law, Brian (Mary Jo) Reed; and many nephews;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Debbie Duncan Reed and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Debbie Reed as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
