SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

40 ILCS 5/9-217

from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 9-217

Amends the Cook County Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Removes a provision that required the chief legal officer of Cook County to be the legal adviser for the Board of Trustees of the Cook County Employees' and Officers' Annuity and Benefit Fund. Authorizes the Board of Trustees to employ an attorney to advise it in all legal matters.

AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing Section 9-217 as follows:

(40 ILCS 5/9-217) (from Ch. 108 1/2, par. 9-217)

Sec. 9-217. Attorney. The chief legal officer of the county shall be the legal advisor of an attorney for the board. If it shall deem such action necessary for the conservation of the fund, the board may in its discretion employ an another attorney for advice or other service in relation to any particular case or to advise the board in all legal matters.
