SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

New Act

Creates the State Employee Commuter Vehicle Registration Act. Requires each current State employee who has been employed by a State agency for more than 1 year to be able, within 60 days after the date of his or her one-year service anniversary with that agency or within 60 days after the effective date of the Act, whichever is later, to furnish evidence that he or she has registered his or her commuter vehicle with the State. Defines "commuter vehicle", "State agency", and "State employee". Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the State Employee Commuter Vehicle Registration Act.

Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act, unless the context otherwise requires:

"Commuter vehicle" means any automobile, truck, or motorcycle leased or owned in whole or part by a State employee and used by that employee to commute to or from employment with a State agency.

"State agency" means any entity included in the definition of "State agencies" in Section 1-7 of the Illinois State Auditing Act.

"State employee" means a person employed by a State agency whose relationship with that agency constitutes an employer-employee relationship under the usual common law rules, and who is not an independent contractor.

Section 10. Registration of State employee commuter vehicles. Each current State employee who has been employed by a State agency for more than one year must, within 60 days after the date of his or her one-year service anniversary with that agency or within 60 days after the effective date of this Act, whichever is later, be able to furnish, upon demand by a police officer or employee of the Secretary of State, evidence that he or she has registered his or her commuter vehicle with the State.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
