HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation
4of Zion Lutheran Church in Bensenville on the occasion of the
5church's 175th anniversary on September 30, 2012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Zion Lutheran Church is the oldest Lutheran church
7in DuPage County and the 2nd oldest established church in the
8State of Illinois; the church still occupies its original
9location in Bensenville; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Zion Lutheran Church has
11strived to minister to the people of DuPage County through both
12the church ministry and its educational institutions; during
13the last 175 years, members of Zion have moved throughout the
14surrounding communities to help establish 11 other Lutheran
15churches in DuPage County; Zion Lutheran Church has also spread
16its educational mission by being a founding church member in
17the establishment of Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose
18Park and Concordia University in River Forest; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The congregation of Zion Lutheran Church will
20celebrate its founding at a special service on September 30,
212012, at 3:00 P.M.; the celebration will feature guest speaker
22Reverend Matthew Harrison, President of the Lutheran Church

1Missouri Synod; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The congregation of Zion Lutheran Church serves as
3a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people
4of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church on the
8occasion of the church's 175th anniversary, thank them for
9their dedicated service to the people of Zion, and wish them
10continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Zion Lutheran Church as a symbol of our esteem and
14respect.
