HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor our friend and colleague, Illinois State Representative Ron Stephens, for his many years of dedicated service to the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens was born on February 19, 1948, in East St. Louis, and raised in Caseyville; he is the son of Earl Stephens and Velma Stephens; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens earned his bachelor's degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1975; he also attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens served his country with pride and distinction as a member of the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade; he was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his distinguished service; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens is a self-employed retail pharmacist and part-owner of 2 pharmacies in southern Illinois; he is also a partner at Freedom Enterprises and has served as a lobbyist; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens served as a Trustee of the Village of Caseyville Trustee from 1981 to 1984; he also served as the Director of State of Illinois Emergency Management Agency from 1990 to 1991; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens served as the State Representative of the 110th District from 1985 to 1991 and as Representative of the 102nd District from 1993 to 2011; during his tenure in the House, he served as Assistant House Republican Leader for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens is a member of numerous veterans and civic organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, the Freemasons, the Shriners, Scottish Rite, the Knights Templar, Sons of the American Legion, 173rd Sky Soldier, the Metro-East Pharmacy Association, and the State and National Pharmacy Association; he is also an honorary member of the Marine Corps League and a Chamber of Commerce member; and

WHEREAS, Ron Stephens and his loving wife, Lisa, have 9 children, Wendi, Chad, Kent, Tod, Chasity, Molly, Broc, Sabastian, and Jade, and 8 grandchildren, Layne, Emma, Eamonn, Paul, Asher, Lilian Lisa, Amelia, and Rose; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor our friend and colleague, Illinois State Representative Ron Stephens, for his many years of dedicated service to the people of this State and wish him great success and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ron Stephens as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
