HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In 2007, Public Act 95-596 was enacted into law,
3directing the Governor to issue an official notice to all
4persons and entities covered by the Flag Display Act to fly the
5United States flag, the State flag of Illinois, and in the case
6of a Armed Forces member's death, the appropriate military
7flag, at half-staff upon the death of a resident of Illinois
8killed by hostile fire as a member of the United States Armed
9Forces, in the line of duty as a law enforcement officer, or in
10the line of duty as a firefighter; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Office of the Governor's website allows any
12person to subscribe to the Illinois Flag Honors e-News
13Summaries service and to be notified whenever the Governor
14issues an official notice pursuant to Public Act 95-596; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Not every person or local government entity that
16displays the United States flag, the State flag of Illinois, or
17the military flag of any branch of the United States Armed
18Forces or the Illinois National Guard is covered by the Flag
19Display Act; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Those persons and entities in Illinois who choose
21to display the United States flag, the State flag of Illinois,
22or the military flag of any branch of the United States Armed

1Forces or the Illinois National Guard, but who are not covered
2by the Flag Display Act, may in some cases be unaware that the
3Governor has issued an official notice to fly the flags at
4half-staff to honor a fallen Armed Forces member, law
5enforcement officer, or firefighter; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we urge local government entities and other persons who display
9the United States flag, the State flag of Illinois, or the
10military flag of any branch of the United States Armed Forces
11or the Illinois National Guard to subscribe to the Illinois
12Flag Honors e-News Summaries service on the Office of the
13Governor's website in order to honor fallen U.S. Armed Forces
14members, law enforcement officers, and firefighters; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That we urge State and local government entities
17and private state-wide associations and organizations to
18provide links on their websites to the Illinois Flag Honors
19e-News Summaries service subscription page on the Office of the
20Governor's website, and to include information about that
21service in their newsletters and publications in order to
22further encourage the flying of the United States flag, the
23State flag of Illinois, and military flags at half-staff to
24honor fallen U.S. Armed Forces members, law enforcement
